|Engine & Air On Working House Fire|

At 1623hrs this afternoon, units from Swatara Township and surrounding jurisdictions were dispatched to a possible structure fire in the area of Highland St. and Boyer St with reports of multiple people trapped. Crews arrived on the scene at 1625hrs and found heavy fire conditions and immediately entered the structure to begin searching. At 1627hrs , crews from Swatara Township removed a 76-year-old female occupant and immediately rendered aid while other crews continued searching the building and extinguishing the fire. The patient was transported to a local hospital and her condition is unknown at this time. Crews also rescued 2 dogs and removed 2 cats from the home. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one side of the duplex while the other sustained substantial damage. Three adults and one juvenile were displaced and are being cared for by the American Red Cross. Currently, the fire is under investigation by the Swatara Township Police and Fire Department.
The engine arrived 2nd due and established the water supply while the crew assisted with fire attack and care of the animals rescued.
